Sam Pointer’s Acoustic Christmas (7th Annual)
A Christmas concert with a twist! Hear light-hearted acoustic versions of the best holiday songs, played in an intimate setting by a top-notch band of local favorites. From a hot jazz jam session on “God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen” to a soaring flute rendition of “O Holy Night”, from a sly vocal take on “You’re A Mean One, Mr. Grinch” to twin mandolins on “Deck the Halls”, this just may be your favorite holiday music of the year!
Award-winning entertainer Sam Pointer leads the way on vocals, acoustic guitar, bouzouki, mandolin, Dixieland banjo, and 5-string banjo. Sam has performed or recorded with Black Jacket Symphony, New Potato Caboose, Grammy winners The Temptations, Emmy winner/Grammy nominee Christopher Hedge, Rollin’ in the Hay, and many more. A former winner of the Chris Austin Songwriting Content at MerleFest and a prizewinner on mandolin and guitar at the Telluride Bluegrass Festival, Sam’s musical artistry and showmanship will keep a smile on your face.
The band tonight also includes Kim Scott on flute (host of NPR’s Block Party Radio, and chart-topping smooth jazz artist), Jason Bailey on mandolin (5 solo CDs to his credit), and Roy Yarbrough on upright bass (an Alabama Jazz Hall of Fame member). Don’t miss this rare opportunity to see these four Alabama stalwarts on the same stage!
